Tips for your first visit

Our office has been located since 1999 on the third floor of the Ärztehaus Neukölln on Karl-Marx-Platz, within 5 minute walking distance from the Neukölln S+U-Bahn station or the Karl-Marx-Straße metro station on the U7 line. In addition, parking is available on Thomasstraße. Full access for disabled guests is available according to DIN 18 024-2. 

If you have received a referral from your doctor/dentist, please bring it with you, as well as appropriate health insurance card, x-rays, x-ray record log or list of current medications.

If you have been referred exclusively for an x-ray, there is no need to schedule an appointment.

Please dress comfortably and sensibly, as some dental materials might adhere to or stain clothing.

After most procedures, it is advisable to cool the affected area; please make sure to have sufficient supplies for cold compresses at home.

Patient anxiety

Please let us know if you suffer from a prohibitive fear of dental treatments. If so, our first visit will only consist of evaluation and advice. If necessary you will receive appropriate medication before the procedure.

What to expect

After checking in with the reception desk, we will first ask you to respond to some important questions concerning your current state of health: for example, current illnesses, medications you're taking, or drug allergies. 

In most cases, it is necessary to prepare an updated x-ray image of your entire jaw. But please also feel free to bring the x-rays that your dentist has provided you — based on the preexisting images, we will determine whether it is necessary to take further x-rays. We employ the most up-to-date, low-radiation devices (exclusively digital radiography) and avoid unnecessary radiation exposure.

You will then be called into a treatment room for an initial examination. We generally thoroughly examine each patient for dental and oral diseases, even if you were referred to us for a particular treatment (e.g. a tooth extraction). We will then share with you the results of our examination and propose all possibilities for treatment at hand.

Sometimes, we confer with our team to discuss findings and treatments.

If our treatment proposal might differ from that of your referring physician, we will discuss this with your dentist.

If the proposed procedure carries any exceptional risks, we will bring these to your attention.

We try our best to spare you unnecessary travel and will perform minor surgeries within the same visit when possible.

You might ask yourself

Why have I been transferred? Why doesn't my dentist perform the treatment himself? What kind of surgery will be performed? 
Be grateful to your dentist for transferring you. The fact that you have been referred to us does not necessarily indicate that an especially difficult or dangerous treatment is in store. Many even seemingly straightforward operations can be a strain for the dentist and patient if the dentist does not routinely perform these procedures, and any responsible dentist will only perform those procedures that he has mastered perfectly. For your own well being, it is preferred to send you to a specialist that performs your operation several times a day, conducted quickly and without complications.

After the treatment

We ask that you please stay seated for several minutes after surgery in order to allow your circulation to stabilize. The nurse will give you some advice for after the treatment. Any gauze swabbing in your mouth should be removed at home. At the reception desk, you will receive a prescription for painkillers and, if necessary, a release from work. A follow-up visit will usually be scheduled for one week later for suture removal and to finalize the treatment.
